About me

Me at 18 months
I have been making all sorts of art and crafts ever since I can remember. My mother taught me to sew when I was a child so my creations will sometimes incorporate fabric and sewing techniques. I always wanted to be an artist but, being the middle child in a large family, that was a frivolous dream.  I started working in an office while I was still in high school and continued through a series of office positions for several years after that.

At the age of 30 I fulfilled my dream and enrolled in college.  I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University with a printmaking emphasis, during which time I developed my papermaking technique.

Family portrait, 1976. Sadly, since this
photo was taken there have been deaths and
divorces. Happily, though, most of the children
in this photo now have thriving families of
their own.  That's me with the red dot. And
the Dorothy Hamill hairdo.

I decided after college that I couldn’t afford to be a “starving artist” so I joined the corporate world as an event producer, where I often used my creative talents.   I continued to do art and craft projects, mostly for friends and my large extended family.
"Corporate" me

I don’t limit myself to any one medium; I like to explore all types of materials and techniques and my cluttered workroom is a happy testament to that!  My most recent interest is in recycled, upcycled, repurposed items. I really enjoy looking at an object and imagining how far away I can take it from its original purpose and turn it into something beautiful. These products are featured in my second shop: www.etsy.com/shop/morebrightideas

In the last few years I got turned on to photography and digital collage. I love exploring by manipulating my original photos and combining them with all sorts of ephemera to create a particular mood. And by producing limited editions, I am able to offer the prints at affordable prices for original artwork.  Photographs, digital collage, greeting cards, etc., are in my original shop: www.etsy.com/shop/anotherbrightidea.

Like most artists, I’m always picking up bits and pieces of the outdoors in my small garden and when traveling, so my collages often include nature’s bounty. My photo cards and photographs also offer a peek into my postage stamp sized garden and my neighborhood.

After I retired early for medical reasons I was free to dedicate more time to pursuing my passions. I opened my first Etsy shop in October 2008, while recuperating from surgery.

My creative passions run far and wide, and wherever my art and craft interests lead I’ll take you with me. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do!

  1. Where can I find a snack container on a turntable? like the one you found in the cupboard that belonged to your aunt.
