Missing You, Dad

My favorite photo of my Dad.  Still miss him after all these years.

Happy Fathers Day to all the great Dads out there!

My garden is back!

Last winter was a brutal one in Michigan, perhaps not as catastrophic as other parts of the country, but the snow was relentless. Michigan set an all-time record for snowfall, and it landed on my patio and stayed there for several months. I had never before seen the snow piled that high!  I hadn't done a very good fall cleanup before the winter thanks to two bad knees, so it was a pretty sorry site.  I just hoped that the snow pack was protecting my plants rather than destroying them.

My prayers were answered - welcome to my jungle oasis! There's hardly a bare spot of ground; everything is filling in so well that I expect my biggest challenge this year will be pruning to keep it in check. But that's okay. That's just what I wanted.

It doesn't look like I lost anything, and some plants, like my purple clematis, are growing better than ever.
Here's some random closeups.

My Astilbe are late; just now getting ready to bloom.

The Bittersweet vine is flourishing. It has more little blossoms than ever.
So so happy to plant my annual fave Blackeyed Susan vines.
Bleeding hearts came and went fairly quickly.  I thought I had lost them but not so.
 Forget-me nots.
 Gerbera daisies, another fave.
I like the combo with purple petunias.
My #1 favorite?  ROSES!

Orange Dahlia planted with purple petunias.
  Osteospermum, a reliable annual.
 New Guinea Impatiens.

I also have water forget-me-nots in my little pond.
My climbing Hydrangea continues to grow like crazy.  In fact, this year I had to have a landscaper come in and do a serious pruning because the vine was in danger of taking down my fence!

 Basket of bright yellow petunias.
These two fence planters contain New Guinea Impatiens and Sweet Potato Vine.  Looks like these planters will have to be replaced next year.  They have been here for years and been repaired several times.  Time to go.
Since Spring has finally arrived, and everything seems to have survived and thrived, I can sit on my bench, relax and enjoy it!
