Sunday Funnies

I'm still here ...

Sorry to be missing in action here, but caring for my sister after her back surgery is keeping me busy.

She's making good progress, so I think I'll be back to a regular schedule soon.  In the meantime, enjoy the first stirrings of Autumn - it's so beautiful outside these days!

Backing Her Up

I'm playing nurse for a while now for my big sister.  She had back surgery yesterday for badly herniated discs. Once she's discharged she'll be coming to my place to recuperate for a while before she goes back home.  As a veteran of back surgeries, I have all the "tools" (dressing aids) and equipment needed during that difficult time post-surgery.  Fortunately, her surgery was not quite as severe as mine, so I'm hoping she has an easy recovery.

Here's a photo of us back in 2007 at her surprise 70th birthday party.  This was post-one-of-my-surgeries - there's a glimpse of the back brace I had to wear.  The shirt I'm wearing was created for my traveling crew back in my working days. The saying "It's not that bad" was an inside joke, but regardless of the original intent of the shirt, it's saying is apropos for many situations!

I may be a little scarce for the next week or two while I'm playing Nurse Felicia.  Wish me luck!

Everything will settle down ... after ...

How often do you find yourself saying, Everything will settle down after I get through this week ... after all those appointments ... when school starts ... when fall comes ... after the holidays ... And you know it never does!

My niece, mother of four kiddos that she has home schooled (two are now in college) says it all the time.  "Once we get through this week everything will settle down."  And of course it never does ...

I think or say this all the time too but something always pops up to keep my schedule very full.  I'm saying it this month because ... my brother is visiting from California ... then my sister has back surgery and will come and stay with me for however long she needs to ... then I'm committed to help an artist friend in her booth at a sewing expo ... then my Traveling Artists Roadshow has another show on October 6 ...   After that it's full speed toward the holidays.   See what I mean?  Happens all the time ...

Oh well, I guess it's better than having nothing to do and nowhere to go. I have never experienced that, except perhaps when I was a bored kid.

How about you? Are you running on life's treadmill as well?

Traveling Artists Roadshow - Success!

We had a great Roadshow on Saturday in Royal Oak, MI.  Despite dire predictions of rain, it stopped before we had to set up and the worst we had to contend with were some drops falling from wet trees. We were blessed with a not-too-hot, sunny day, with lots of friends, customers, other artists, and just generally nice people visiting with us all day long.

Here's some images from my booth.

And here's some images from my artist friends.

It was a good day!

Getting Ready - Traveling Artists Roadshow

Well, the Traveling Artists Roadshow is coming up on its fourth show this coming Saturday, September 8.  We'll have more artists in this show, and the word is steadily getting out about us. It's kind of exciting!

September is officially the start of autumn, never mind that it was close to 90 degrees and humid today.  So I have been going through my existing work to feature my fall oriented pieces. And I have been itching to create some new work.  Other life responsibilities have kept me away from my studio for much too long.  So I hunkered down over this Labor Day weekend and created some new work.

A few summers ago I spent a weekend at my friend's cottage in Oscoda, Michigan. I have used many of the photos I took that weekend in my art, either as straight photos or digitally altered collages.  I finally got around to using some photos of a barn that I stopped to photograph that weekend.  I'll have these digitally enhanced 8x10 prints available.

I'm also mounting these and some other photos on wood boards. Today is a dark dreary day so far, so I'm hoping I get some natural light later to get some good photos.
