Sisterhood of the Traveling Vases - Update

Last year at Christmas I wrote about the various reincarnations of two vases I own.  I have had the vases for so many years I don't remember where they came from.  It's amazing what a can of spray paint will do!

Here they were part of the decor for two different graduation parties.

Last year I made a few changes and used them as part of my Christmas decor.

This year, once again, my traveling vases have changed.  The vases got an ombre paint update and some different trim additions and are now part of my Christmas decor.

I wonder how many more reincarnations these vases will go through!

"Blue Christmas" Card

Every year I make my own Christmas cards. No surprise, I guess.  By now everyone who was on my Christmas list should have received their cards, so I think it's safe to post this.  I really like my card this year, if I may say so myself!

I thought I would show you the steps I took to create the card.

First, the photo.  Once I decorate for Christmas I usually take several photos of my decor and individual pieces for two reasons: I usually change up the decor a little each year so I want to remember what I did, and also it's possible that I can use some photos in my artwork.  This year I spruced up some old pillar candles with some glitter.

When I saw this photo I immediately knew I had my Christmas card!  This is the unretouched  original photo.

And here it is after cropping and some Photoshop magic.

I recently purchased some Scrap Edge overlays from Cottage Arts.  I'm not going to try to explain how these are used.  I'm kind of new to these types of overlays and Cottage Arts explains it a lot better than I would! So click on their link and see what they have to say.

And here it is color-adjusted and combined with my photo.

The next step was to size the image and place it 5-up to print on photo paper. I then cut out the images.
Now it was time to put it all together.  I wanted to use up some card stock I have on hand so I decided to go with a slightly smaller size card so I could get two cards out of each 8-1/2 x 11 sheet.  Simple: just cut the page in half horizontally and fold.  I also grabbed some white vellum that I wanted to use as a backing for the photo.

I didn't take photos of this step, but it's easy to see. I trimmed the vellum with scallop scissors, and touched the edges with blue rubber stamp ink.  I then cut strips from the vellum to resemble tape, touched the edges with ink, and then put it all together.

I used a couple of different colored cover stocks for the cards.

Here's the inside of the card.

I also created this online version to send to some colleagues.

I'm pleased how the card turned out this year.  What do you think?

Heavy Hearts

Sunday Funnies posted earlier automatically, although I don't find anything funny the last few days.

My heart is heavy, not only for what happened in Connecticut, but also I learned yesterday that my beloved dear sweet aunt passed away.  There are no words.

A Crafty (Funny) Story

See that? Not a pretty sight.  It's my latest klutz accident with an Xacto knife, of which there have been many over the years!

I was finishing up my Christmas cards when I literally sliced a 1/4" piece of my finger off.  Right off!  And it was pretty deep - bled like crazy and hurt like crazy for a while.  When I changed the bandage the next day I noticed that the tip of my finger was blue.  Is that what blood poisoning or gangrene looks like?? I don't know ...

So yesterday I decided I should have a doctor look at it just in case. Luckily for me there's a small emergency walk-in clinic very close to me.  After a tetanus shot and a prescription antibiotic, I asked the doc why my finger was blue.  He took a very close look at it ... WAIT FOR IT ... it's not gangrene, it's not blood poisoning ... it's rubber stamp ink from my Christmas cards!!!

The doc, the nurse and I had a good laugh about that!  The nurse then cleaned up my finger, bandaged it up and sent me on my way.

What a klutz I am ... and sometimes ditzy to boot at times.  See that dark spot on my thumbnail? That's a wound under my nail from a few weeks ago when I pinched my thumb while setting up for a show.  Yes, klutzy.

This is not the time of year to be working with a handicap, is it?  And I'm sure all you artists and crafters out there can relate to that!

Happy crafting!

Traveling Artists Roadshow Final 2012 Event

We had our last Traveling Artists Roadshow holiday show and last show of 2012 last Saturday.  It was a very nice event in a nice facility.  I had all holiday products in the show and I spent all day today photographing and posting some new work on Etsy that I hadn't had time to list earlier.

I'm actually looking forward to a break from the shows to get my home organized for the holidays.  And, oh yeah, getting a little rest too!

Here's some images from my display at the show.

Holiday Crazies on their Way

There's no stopping now - full speed ahead into the holidays!  Have you started your planning and decorating and gifting projects?

My tutorials for holiday projects have been very popular.  Here's my pinecone wreath tutorial.  Love to make these!  (P.S. These are no longer available in my Etsy shop - they have all been sold.)

I have made this fall banner with both paper and fabric penants.

Here's my recycled wood Christmas angels project.

And finally, my absolutely positively easiest flower tutorial.  Do you end up with rolls and rolls of those wired holiday ribbons?  These easy flowers could be used for gift wrapping, banners, ornaments, whatever ...    So easy!

Happy creating!
