Roses for my Mother and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

If you've been here before you know I especially love FLOWERS. And I especially love ROSES. And I especially love PINK roses.  So in October every year for Breast Cancer Awareness month, my thought process goes like this: breast cancer month = memories of my mother = pink = roses. It's all tied up together for me.  My mother passed away many years ago from breast cancer and I have written before that her illness was a life saver for at least one of her five daughters.  Because we are all diligent about annual mammograms, one sister's breast cancer was located very early and she is doing just great more than five years later. Besides the family history, I fall into several other high risk categories, so I take special care to be checked regularly.  It's all very personal for me.

I just posted the following photos and, as I did last year, I will donate 10% of the sale of any of these prints during the month of October to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure.  I think one of these prints would be a lovely gift to honor a survivor or someone currently going through cancer treatment.

To borrow a line from an old movie: my mother thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I thank you!

New Treasury

This treasury is a thank you from ElizabethOHaraGlass to other shops who have included her in treasuries. It's called When the Days Dwindle Down ... Say Thank You.  I'm honored to be included with The Moon's a Balloon print.  Be sure to stop by and see some stunning fused glass art at ElizabethOHaraGlass.

Color Feature of the Week and New Treasury

My Liquid Blue Iris No. 4 Photo is included in Color Feature of the Week on Creative with Clay's blog.  Charan Sachar is a wonderfully creative potter. You must visit to see his unique take on ordinary objects.  Fantastic! Go here for a treat:  Creative with Clay.

Charan takes his selections and creates a treasury as well - see below.  So pretty!

Two New Treasuries

My "Hope for a New Beginning" Digital Collage Print has made an appearance in two treasuries, and both treasuries are lovely.  It's endlessly interesting to me to see so many different artistic interpretations and so much wonderful art!
Hope for a New Beginning Digital Collage
The first one is called Writing on the Wall Graffiti created by TerryAskeArtQuilts.  I have visited this shop before. If you haven't, you simply must go to see the stunning work she does.

The second one is called "Appeal to ?" and it is created by SewUpscale, a shop filled with fabric postcard quilts that are absolutely delightful. Who knew?  And you could mail them if you wanted to - but I wouldn't give one up if it were me.  Nuh-uh.

He's ba-a-a-ack!!!

Ok, now this is starting to creep me out.  Remember last fall I wrote about the strange behavior of a spider at my place? Back then, one of my readers was kind enough to let me know that the spider is an Orbweaver (or "Worb-eaver" as I mis-spoke to my nieces yesterday, who thought I was pretty hilarious).  These spiders build a web, then after a short time they eat up the web, move somewhere else and build another web. (Nice that they clean up after themselves!)

Well, it's back!  Now I don't know if it's the very same one, but I have never seen two at a time.  This one started out on my back patio just like last year, but it has now moved to MY FRONT PORCH.  And it's web "anchors" spread from the ceiling to my wreath to the tree to the ground.  This I do not like - I have to pass too close to it to get in and out of my house. I know, I know - I'm a sissy.

And I'm really getting creeped out that this guy shows up every Halloween! I'm starting to have nightmares that this spider is more than just a garden spider - and it's slowly building a giant web around my whole house and by October 31 I will be totally encased in a web cocoon with a ginormous spider with red horns drooling and coming after me for dinner!!   WAKEUPWAKEUP!! Whew. That was close.

I want to live and let live, so I'm hoping he will move on as he always does.  He's just too close for comfort this time. ;-)

New Treasury

Isn't this a bright and colorful treasury? I love it!  It's called Orange and Green Duet and My Hope for a New Beginning print is included. The treasury was created by RosinJewelry.  Do you like Swaroski? Then you should visit her shop and drool!

Two New Treasuries

I think Autumn is arguably the most visually exciting season of the year. Everywhere you look the vibrancy of the fall colors is stunning and breathtaking.  Two of my babies - an ACEO and a wreath - are very popular choices for the treasuries the Etsy family creates. I'm so grateful and pleased every time they are chosen.  Shown below are two more gorgeous treasuries including my work.

Here's Caramel Apple Craving and now I'm definitely craving a caramel apple! It was created by buttonsoupjewelry.  What a delightful shop - yes, jewelry made from buttons.  Really cute!

The other treasury is Falling in Love with Fall and includes my wreath.  It was created by SeaStarBeads, a member of Etsy who doesn't have a seller shop (yet?).

Inspiration Avenue: Decide

Inspiration Avenue's prompt this week is "Decide."  Here's a favorite quote of mine. It fits, don't you think?

New Treasury

Here's a lovely Autumn Treasury called Autumn Harvest that includes my Autumn Scented Wreath.
The treasury was created by GalleryJuana, a shop with beautiful drawings and paintings of the human figure.  Lovely.

Do you have Another Bright Idea?
I know I’m not the only artist/crafter whose brain is constantly filled with new ideas. I actually chose my shop name because of this constant onslaught of images. Alas, some of these bright ideas never make it out of my head.  Some do, but fail miserably during the actual process of creation. I don’t understand why it doesn’t look as gorgeous as it did in the recesses of my brain!  Fortunately, sometimes my ideas work just as I imagined, and – hallelujah – sometimes even better than I imagined.

When I look at other artists’ work – yes, that’s you - I see so many bright ideas that I struggle not to lose my creative courage. Sometimes these creatively beautiful pieces just take my breath away and I want to know "how did you do that?"  I especially love reading tutorials, how-tos, stories of how someone came upon a technique or effect by accident and then capitalized on it.

So here’s a call for artists - I would like to hear from you and feature your bright idea right here.  If you have a blog and have written a tutorial, let me know. If you have a special technique that you developed and would like to share it on my blog, let me know.  If you had a “happy accident” and ran with it, let me know. Photos will be a bonus. I will consider all of your submissions and choose the best to feature here. If you want to offer a giveaway along with your story, that’s an even bigger bonus! The biggest responses to my blog are for the giveaways – we all like something for free, especially a special piece of art from a talented artist.  Please note: I have to say that I’m not interested in just a link to something in your shop; I’m looking for a story.  Understand, it doesn’t have to be revolutionary, just …. another bright idea!

Email me at: and tell me your story!

End of Summer Series

It's getting to that time of year when I get a little melancholy. I love summer and always hate to see it fading away, even though this past summer was a bit of a disappointment.  The heat and humidity was too much even for this warm weather gal.  So Autumn's cooler weather is welcome, and I do love the visual treats that the change of seasons brings. Nevertheless I still look longingly back at summer. Here's my End of Summer Series, just posted.

Two New Treasuries

I find it so interesting that being chosen for treasuries seems to go in spurts. It's usually feast or famine, and right now it's feast!  Here's two more treasuries I'm pleased to be included in.

This one features my Wicked Woman ACEO.  The treasury is called - very poetically - Would That Sweet Darkness Where They Dwell.   It is created by glowstoes, a shop featuring recycled and reassembled jewelry. Interesting work!

The other treasury features my Hope for a New Beginning print.  It's called Makes Me Want to Shop and it is created by NRC2510.  NRC2510 isn't an Etsy seller but a buyer, which sort of explains the choice of a treasury collection.  And as you can see, this buyer has great taste!

Sometimes little unexpected things happen - so delightful, so fleeting, so uplifting, that it makes you smile.  I have had a series of these little things lately, so I’m smiling a lot.

One of them had to do with something I sold on Ebay.  I had only recently discovered that this particular item is a sought-after collectible, so after 10 days on Ebay it sold for a surprising amount of money.  I’m still in shock over that one!  And I’m smiling, because I’ll be able to start a savings account for the extra expenses I’ll be sure to have next year when I go out of town for back surgery.

The other unexpected happening was an Etsy custom order for two of my pine cone wreaths.  It was such a satisfying experience - in my back and forth emails with the buyer I found a very special person with the most delightful personality.  She gave me such a boost because she was so excited about the project, and when she received the wreaths she made sure that I knew how pleased she was.  Her delight with the purchase just came through so strongly that I’m still smiling at the serendipity of it all.   As she put it, “Goodness, this transaction has been so much more than just "a buy"....”  She sent me this photo of the installation.  How great is that??  I’ll be smiling about this one for a long time to come!  Thank you, Ms. P.

New Treasury

My Spidertime ACEO is quite popular at this time of year. Here's the original story about this spider. Be sure to read the comments also because my readers helped me understand what kind of spider it was and why it did what it did.

My spider appeared in this delightful treasury called Happy Haunting.   It was created by Charlottescollection, which is indeed an eclectic collection of beautiful work!

New Treasury

One of my favorite wreaths (they're like my babies, after all) is my Autumn Scented Wreath and it has appeared in another treasury from the Handmade Gift Guide Facebook.  It's called simply "Fall."

It was created by Blackcatcraft, a shop filled with some gorgeous vintage inspired jewelry.  Take a look!

New Treasury

I'm on a roll with treasuries this week. This one is called Free Falling and includes my Falling Leaves Digital Collage Print.   I LOVELOVELOVE every piece chosen in this treasury.  Gorgeous... just gorgeous.  It was created by Paperandsoul, a mixed media shop, although at the moment only jewelry is being shown.

New Treasury

My Halloween ACEO called Spidertime is included in this treasury called The Things that Crawl in the Night.
This has to be one of the strangest treasuries I have been in!  My spider seems downright tame compared to the rest of these creepy crawlers.  And, just so you know, the only way I was able to take that photo of the spider is because it was on the other side of the window!  The treasury was created by GlitzAndGlam4U, a shop with some great jewelry.

New Treasury

We are coming up to Halloween soon (well, in a month-and-a-half!) so this treasury called Once Upon a Midnight Dreary and features my Wicked Woman ACEO.

The curator is ericadaley, a shop full of spool dolls and other fun things. Never heard of spool dolls? Take a look - they're adorable!

9-11-2001 - Remember those we lost

I'm remembering my friend BIG AL.

Simplicity is a Single Rose

This week's challenge at Inspiration Avenue is "simplicity." It's no secret that I love every flower on this good earth, but roses sit at the top of the list. It might be a bit of a cliche, but to me the essence of simplicity is a single rose. Here are a few images from my own garden. Such simple beauty!
